Virginia weddings have a rhythm of their own — a haldi in a Chantilly backyard on Thursday, a baraat winding through a Tysons hotel drive on Saturday morning, a reception that only truly starts once the DJ finds the right dhol edit at eleven. Photography that knows the ceremony before it happens
A South Asian wedding is not one event; it is a sequence of moments that each last a few seconds and never repeat. The jaimala. The moment a groom's shoes vanish. The first look at a mangalsutra. A photographer who is still finding their angle when the priest says "now" has already missed it. Surya grew up inside these traditions and has documented more than 400 celebrations — Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Gujarati, Punjabi, Marathi, Bengali and fusion — so the important second is anticipated, framed, and kept.
Our approach blends two things that rarely sit together: documentary storytelling — the real laughter, the real tears, the aunties orchestrating everything from the second row — and refined editorial portraiture that looks like it belongs in a magazine. The result is a gallery that feels honest on the day and timeless twenty years later.
Where we photograph in Virginia and the DMV
We are based in New Jersey and work throughout the Mid-Atlantic; Virginia, Washington DC and Maryland are a regular part of our calendar and travel within the DMV is included in every collection. Recent and upcoming celebrations include:
- Northern Virginia — Chantilly, Fairfax, Tysons, McLean, Reston, Ashburn, Leesburg and Manassas, from grand hotel ballrooms to family backyards and the Hindu temples of the region.
- Washington DC — downtown hotels, museum venues and the waterfront, where a baraat down a city street becomes a photograph in itself.
- Maryland — National Harbor and the Gaylord, Bethesda, Rockville and Baltimore.
- Richmond & Charlottesville — vineyard and estate weddings where the light at golden hour does half the work for us.

Do you travel to Virginia and Washington DC for Indian weddings?
Yes — Northern Virginia, Richmond, Washington DC and Maryland are all a regular part of our year, and travel within the DMV is included in every collection.
How many days of coverage do we need?
Most of our Virginia weddings run two to three days — a haldi or mehndi, the ceremony, and the reception. We quote on your actual event list, so you never pay for hours you do not use.
Can you photograph a Telugu or Tamil ceremony correctly?
Yes. Surya grew up with South Indian traditions and has photographed hundreds of Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayali ceremonies. The muhurtham, mangalsutra and saptapadi are anticipated, not discovered.
How far in advance should we book?
Peak spring and autumn weekends in Virginia are usually reserved 10 to 14 months out. Winter and weekday celebrations can often be booked closer to the date — check your date and we will tell you honestly.
